Every child belongs in a healthy, loving family. No other environment has proven to be better suited for or more effective at delivering the safety, stability, and care that is so vitally important to a child’s wellbeing. Across the United States, however, a hidden crisis has been ravaging our communities. Each year, government child protection agencies are alerted to more than 7 million children who have experienced maltreatment. These reports have resulted in over 400,000 children being removed from their homes and placed in an overburdened foster care system.

In 2015, CarePortal was launched by The Global Orphan Project, and since then, the platform has expanded across the nation engaging child welfare agencies, schools, pregnancy centers, churches, businesses, volunteer organizations, and more to facilitate local, proactive, and effective care for kids. It is through this collective impact that we are making real progress to reverse our nation’s foster care crisis and radically change the system, and our society, for the better.

By equipping a care-sharing network to meet practical needs – like furniture for a single mom who just left an abusive relationship and is starting over to provide a safe, comfortable home for her children or funding an urgent car repair for a dad who is working overtime and needs his car to get to work in order to secure enough income to provide for his kids – we are unleashing the power of community to strengthen families, support safe reunification, stabilize temporary foster and kinship placements, and accelerate timely permanence for children.
